Cardiff held off a late Bedwas fightback to win an entertaining Principality Premiership game at the BT Sport Arms Park on Saturday March 5.

The hosts were first to score. Bedwas’ lineout was disrupted by Lou Reed and James Goode, before a drive at the line was stopped. However, lock forward Nick White was on hand to go over from five metres out. David Bird added the extras from wide out.

Bedwas were on level terms within ten minutes, as another lineout was worked wide for Aled Brew to score. James Dixon converted.

Cardiff came back soon after, and with the forwards dominant it wasn’t a surprise to see Number 8 Cam Dolan cross from the back of a scrum. Bird was again on target with the extras.

The Blue and Blacks’ pack were again responsible for Cardiff’s third try, coming after several breaks by the backs. White picked up to dive over when the ball got five meters from the line. That sent the Blue & Blacks in 24-8 up at half time.

Early in the second half, Bird extended the lead further with a penalty, and both sides were guilty of failing to finish off opportunities before the Bedwas fightback began.

Brew scored his and his team’s second try with ten minutes left, and when Tom Rowlands crossed from a quick tap penalty, there were a few minutes of injury time left for the visitors to try to nick the game.

Bedwas threw everything at the home side with the score tight at 26 – 24 but Cardiff, who were a man down, turned on the defence to hold firm and take the points.
