A Caerphilly town resident has been left “heartbroken” after their pet dog was knocked over and killed when it escaped through a back gate damaged by vandals.
The resident, from Mill Road, had their gate damaged earlier this month, but did not realise until it was too late.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police explained: “One of our officers has been dealing with a very sad incident in Caerphilly.
“A resident on Mill Road called us after having his back gate damaged, sometime on March 3. Unfortunately that wasn’t the end of the story.
“Unaware of the damage at the time, the resident let his dog out into the back garden. The dog escaped through the gate where it had been damaged, and was tragically killed in a road traffic collision.
“The resident and his family are understandably heartbroken.
“Mindless vandalism is not only a nuisance and an unnecessary expense for the victim, but can also have serious consequences. The knock-on impact of this is now far-reaching.
“Officers are investigating the criminal damage and ask that anyone with information relating to this calls 101 quoting log 58 04/03/16.”
Going by recent Community Support Officers attitude to crime and criminal offences by inane cretinous yobs roaming the town and its outskirts, and the `redefining of this offence of criminal damage by `kicking in the back gate` as a necessery exercise for the culprits to perform for his kick boxing class, and, in the words of Community Support officers on the town, “we need to encourage these youngsters to get exercise and stay healthy”. Rubbish, enforce the law, leave the definition of criminal offences to the law makers and the lawyers, if you find a criminal offence has been committed prosecute it. The time has come for CSO`s to serve the whole community and not justy make it easy for those criminals who roam the streets looking for something to damage.
