Trethomas post office is set for a new home, just 25 metres from its current Newport Road location.
The proposed move is part of a major modernisation programme in post offices across the country, designed to make it easier for customers to do business.
The Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a six-week public consultation.
Should it go ahead, the branch would open seven days a week between 7am and 7pm on Monday to Saturday, and 7am and 5pm on Sunday.
This would offer an extra 36 hours of service every week.
