Gwent Police is appealing for information after a series of break-ins in Pengam led to a parrot being stolen from a pet shop.

The four break-ins took place sometime between the evening of Tuesday March 15 and the following morning, at the Britannia Enterprise Centre in Pengam.

Thieves stole the £900 African grey parrot from Silver Star Pets, along with over £35,000 worth of stock, including dog leads, dog coats, fish tanks, various pet food and dog grooming equipment.

The other units broken into were Auto Stitch, George Monumental Masons and Pride and Groom, where damage was caused to the doors but nothing was stolen.

A taxi sign, however, was stolen from one of the vehicles parked at the centre.

Anyone with information can call Gwent Police on 101, quoting 1600091057.

Probably no proactive police patrols of these industrial premises, perhaps they dont pay the Crime Commissioner fixed Tax Precept?

Grey’s are highly intelligent, sensitive birds that are easily stressed and need a great deal of care and attention – I only hope the despicable low life who stole it are soon caught and the bird returned to its owners unharmed. There are far too many burglaries, there is simply no deterrent, if the scumbags are caught it’s only a slap on the wrist or a week inside with full bed and board.

The issue is to prevent such thefts byproactive policing, first and last, and unless this happens it does`nt matter what the courts will or wont do, these cretins wont be hauled before them,
