Bargoed remain fifth in the SWALEC Championship but closed the gap on fourth-placed RGC 1404 with a nail-biting 23-20 win on Saturday March 12 to keep the promotion race wide-open.
After downing league leaders Merthyr, Bargoed completed a rousing week.
A closely-contested battle saw both kickers put their side ahead as they traded penalties in the first half leaving Bargoed 9-6 ahead at the break.
RGC flanker Andrew Williams finally broke the deadlock with the game’s first try early in the second half after wing Carwyn Ap Myrddin’s kick chase to give his side the lead at 13-9.
Bargoed hit back as Keiron Brown, and then Grant Rogers crossed to open a ten-point lead, before Williams grabbed his second try to set up a thrilling climax.
RGC couldn’t find a winner, and are now just three points above Bargoed in the highly-coveted fourth promotion spot.
