Pupils and staff at Crumlin High Level Primary School sported odd, colourful and silly socks as part of Down’s Syndrome Awareness Day on Monday, March 21.
The theme for 2016 was dubbed ‘Lots of Socks’, and aimed to encourage people to talk about the condition and remove misconceptions.
Crumlin Primary pupils were inspired to raise awareness of Down’s Syndrome by popular fellow pupil Ava, who has the condition.
Together, the staff and pupils raised £225 through a variety of activities, including a bake sale and competition to see how many socks they could fit on at one time.
Katie Ball, in Year 6, led an assembly on Down’s Syndrome and the importance of inclusion.
Mrs Knight, deputy headteacher said: “A thoroughly enjoyable day raising awareness of and celebrating Down’s Syndrome. As a school we are committed to creating a fully inclusive community and are pleased with over £225 raised so far. We would like to thank all our parents for their continued generosity.”
Good on them, well done for highlighting this very very important issue.
I know people who have been wearing odd socks by accident for years.
Well done Mrs Knight, and Katie Ball.
