Local residents and environmental staff were out in force on Thursday April 7 as they tidied the Nant yr Aber river at Mill Close, Caerphilly.

Staff from United Welsh, Space Saviours and Keep Wales Tidy, amongst others, joined residents in a clean-up operation in an attempt to make the area more wildlife-friendly.

Over 15 bags of rubbish, two shopping trollies, a drum and a fridge were just some of the items removed from the river during the community event.

Salmon, bull fish and an eel were safely removed from the river during the event to keep them safe as items were fished out.

As well as the river clean-up, local children learnt how to safely build bird boxes and dens for garden animals.
