Penyrheol Community Centre has had a new £23,000 ceiling installed to help it cut its heating costs.

The new suspended ceiling was installed by workers recently following a grant from Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Community councillor Bill Allen, who is chair of the centre’s committee, said: “We’ve had lots of trouble trying to heat the place up.

“The ceiling was so high because the building, dating from 1961, used to be a cinema.”

    This is good news.

It demonstrates the commitment the Current Caerphilly Council has to sustainable Community facilities particularly when those facilities are run by volunteers from the communities the building serves. Long may the principal apply.

The only thing that care is how long it will take to pay off. If the roof will only save £1000 per year and will need replacing every 23 years it’s a waste of money.
