Crews respond to large deliberate grass fire in Rudry

News | | Published: 17:00, Friday April 29th, 2016.

Crews from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service responded to a large grass fire in Rudry on Monday April 25, which consumed over eight hectares of land and 20 conifer trees.

Two fire crews from Caerphilly attended the blaze at around 6.25pm and fought the fire with beaters for over an hour-and-a-half.

The fire was believed to have been set deliberately and covered an area similar in size to just under 20 football pitches.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Gwent Police launched a joint project in March to reduce the amount of deliberate grass fires.
