Firefighters from Caerphilly Fire Station joined staff from Tesco Ystrad Mynach to take on a gruelling rowing challenge to raise money for Ty Hafan and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Together, the staff and officers raised over £400 by completing the 115km challenge on a static rowing machine in the Tesco store, on the weekend of April 30.

The event was part of the Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s charity appeal.

Cllr Leon Gardiner said: “I would like to say a very big thank you to the staff at Tesco in Ystrad Mynach and customers, as well as the team at Caerphilly Fire Station for their support in taking on this challenge for my charity appeal.

“I have been overwhelmed by the support I’ve received over the last year and the amount raised for my chosen charities is now over £16,000. Thank you very much indeed to everyone involved.”
