An expected result. I am expecting Labour to have PCC too but Plaid could shock us all.

Yes, probably a Labour PCC as well. Times are a changing though and the political map will look different in a few years time.

The political map has the possiblity to `look different` NEXT YEAR, with the Local Council elections. Whatever happens in that election next year there is one certainty, and that is every Candidate, and each party, will have to fight for every vote, whilst Labour has a `strong` vote base, The Nationalists vote is `soft`, so there is everything for each party to fight for between now and then.

The Nationalist Candidate did`nt shock us all, but, I have admit it appears he was able to take it to the second preference vote, not bad for a first timer

The AM who retired has decided to take a cushy job with a nice salary and still receive the lump sum from the Welsh Assembly. Politicising the police force is not a good thing.

I agree, but it is becoming a fact of life.

All residents should hold all commissioner to account, ensure they do not ignore the views of all citizens, Politics apart.

That is the ideal situation – far from reality. Cuthbert could stand for every single PCC election and not do anything when elected yet he would still be elected.

Holding elected officials to account only work when people take an interest in politics and know what the elected officials do.

Clear signs of disillusionment towards Labour, who continue to ignore the people of Caerphilly. If the In/Out referendum opts out in June, then it will be an end of UKIP; simply because that’s all the electorate see them as, and closer look at their policies will put people off.
So those voters will then vote Plaid Cymru, and Labour will be gone for good.

Clearly you are suffering from a delusional disorder, or you are drunk, either way you know nothing about politics. particularly local politics. Plaid Cymru AKA The Welsh Nationalist will never, 1 Take the Caerphilly Seats from Labour; 2 They do not have the backing or a mandate from Welsh People to do anything in our name, and 3 UKIP will not disappear after the Referendum, they will, rightly or wrongly, become embroiled in Welsh Politics in the Assembly, one thing is for sure, they will not sit on their hands just because the referendum is done and dusted. They may all rejoin the Tory party but thats for another day.

Sadly I can only assume it is you who is suffering with delusion.
Plaid Cymru were only 1500 votes short of Labour in Caerphilly.

With Labour and Plaid both wanting to stay in the EU; UKIP are the only alternative for those that want out. If we vote to leave the EU in June, and once we have had another couple of referendums … and as long as they too say to leave, and we actually leave … then UKIP are pretty much a spent force.
I agree that they will try to hang around – but people then would have to read their manifestos … and I am pretty sure they will be similar to the Tory ideology; so …

Labour, much like the Conservative party, simply do not listen to the people who vote for them.
If we leave the EU … as long as Plaid do not revert back to their looney nationalist past, will mop up the Labour and UKIP votes.

UKIP will retreat into the Tory Party whatever the outcome of the referendum, because once it is over, in or out, their work is done, and if the result is to stay there will not be another opportunity to exit the EU so whatever the result they will have done their work.

You make a point about The Welsh Nationalist Party, first, in this election they polled 412 more votes than the last Assembly Election, second they had a reduced SHARE of the vote, ( almost the entire reduced vote for all candidates were moppped up by UKIP), Labour therefore lost NO votes to The Nationalists in Caerphilly, even with the high profile of The Nationalist Candidate on a position opposing the LDP, 412.votes.

With regard to your comment about the `Looney Welsh Nationalist `past`. You may or may not realise that The Welsh Nationalist Party ( Plaid Cymru) was established exclusively to gain Independence for Wales. nothing else whatsoever, they have recently ditched that one thing which set them apart from all other parties, so, “what advantage at all, whatsoever would there be in anyone joining them?, and they may be doing deals shortly with Labour to continue to promote good socialist policies for Wales in The Welsh Assembly, if that happens it will be in the patronage of Welsh Labour Policitians demonstrating they can work with other for the advancement of Wales and its citizens, nothing wrong with that,

Again you border on the rediculous by suggesting The Nationalist will `mop up` labour votes, and an even more rediculous suggestion that Labour supporters would support a party committed to Welsh Independence.

Rediculous or not … I find it ridiculous somebody would think that UKIP `will have done their work’ if we vote to remain … that`s ridiculous, idiotic … maybe even rediculous!

If the vote is to remain, just as the SNP have demonstrated, UKIP will be around for a very long time

can liebour remember these rules as it dont seem to apply to all,, Seven principles of public life Selflessness Holders of public office should act solely in terms of the public interest. Integrity Holders of public office must avoid placing themselves under any obligation to people or organisations that might try inappropriately to influence them in their work. They should not act or take decisions in order to gain financial or other material benefits for themselves, their family or their friends. They must declare and resolve any interests and relationships. Objectivity Holders of public office must act and take decisions impartially, fairly and on merit, using the best evidence and without discrimination or bias. Accountability Holders of public office are accountable to the public for their decisions and actions and must submit themselves to the scrutiny necessary to ensure this. Openness Holders of public office should act and take decisions in an open and transparent manner. Information should not be withheld from the public unless there are clear and lawful reasons for doing so. Honesty Holders of public office should be truthful. Leadership Holders of public office should exhibit these principles in their own behaviour. They should actively promote and robustly support the principles and be willing to change poor behaviour wherever it occurs.

Very idealistic, I don’t disagree but just look at the parties that have run Wales for decades, Labour and Plaid. Neither have come close to your ideals. Neither have the Tories or Lib Dems. Greens and UKIP are new kids on the block but will be infected by the ambitions of politicians that get a little bit of success.

The correct part of your post is that “Holders of public office are accountable to the public for their decisions and action.” It is us, the voters, that choose who governs and voting out the incumbents is the only way to make politicians think carefully about their actions for fear that the same fate awaits them. Unfortunately less than half the population now vote, this allows the wicked and self serving to run the whole show.

Perhaps they should, for myself I am guided by the principles and morals of my parents – both strict Christians. In fairness to most elected representatives known to me they are usually not in it for personal gain but to try and do their best for the people they represent. Their views differ from one another but it is not usually their intent to cheat or harm the voters.

The problem lies with a small minority, examples can be found in every party, who have a personal agenda and do wish to gain from public office. Unfortunately it is they who usually rise to become leaders within their party and in governance. As I said it is up to the electorate to do something about this and until more people are willing to take an interest the bad apples will always be with us.

The Tories in Wales found your words particularly fitting in the election.

Whereas The Welsh Nationalist elected a bunch of “Bright young Things”, ridding thier benches of `has been, older and experienced people. Now thats the way to do it, ruthless, and subjective actions, ridding the party of baggage in the interest of progress. But they need to beware of resentments and recriminations from those they have cast aside in this election as candidates, those people know where the bodies and hidden. I predict that recriminations will surface now the realisation of what was done to some long standing Welsh Nationalists figures has time to sink in, and, even though Leanne Wood showed them all how to win elections the knives are being sharpened in the Assembly and we could see a re-run of UKIPs changing of the guard actions.
