Parents, staff and pupils from Rhiw Syr Dafydd Primary School, in Oakdale, came together last month for a special wildflower planting event to mark the school being awarded its second Green Flag Award.
Rhiw Syr Dafydd Primary School’s Pupil Council consists of a pupil from each class within years 1 to 6, with a total of 18 pupils. The council also has a number of adult members including teachers, governors and the caretaker.
It is the role of the Pupil Council to tackle different projects within the school including eco schools projects such as the spring flower planting.
The Pupil Council have also worked on a number of other eco projects including recycling of plastic milk bottles, placing boulders on grass verges and installing gates to encourage responsible parking.
Headteacher Craig George, said: “I am extremely proud of all the pupils and staff at Rhiw Syr Dafydd Primary School. They continually impress me with their inspirational ideas, hard work and dedication to the school. The school council and eco committee have been concerned about the decline in bee population and felt that planting wildflower areas around the school would encourage them back.”
