Police appeal after pair left with serious injuries in collision outside Ystrad Mynach hospital

News | | Published: 13:14, Friday June 3rd, 2016.

Police are appealing for information after two cars collided near the hospital in Ystrad Mynach, leaving two people hospitalised.

Gwent Police were called at approximately 10pm on Monday May 23 to the A469 near Ysbyty Ystrad Mynach traffic lights.

A silver Vauxhall Vectra and a red Citroen DS3 had collided, and two people suffered serious injuries.

Paramedics from Welsh Ambulance Service attended the scene and took the two injured people to Prince Charles Hospital.

The A469 remained closed for several hours, and officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 564 23/05/16.

Isn’t it ironic, to be injured in a road crash outside a ‘hospital’ and then having to be taken to a real hospital 20 miles away?

Yes I totally agree Cllr Williams, That hospital is a bit of a white elephant. When my daughter went into labour she went to the Ystrad hospital as instructed by the midwife, however when things started to go wrong with the birth they transferred her to the Gwent, in Newport. The ironic thing was, that my daughters partner drove his car to the hospital, and arrived at the Gwent, before the ambulance carrying my daughter, the ambulance was on its emergency blues and twos. Thankfully my daughter gave birth to my Grandson who was ok, as was my daughter.

I’m glad to hear everything went ok. I really mean this as I think the current setup with the lack of facilities in ystrad is putting new lives at an extraordinary risk.

We were conned, the Miners closed and we were promised a new hospital – not a clinic. I am pleased mother and baby are well but we both know that events could have turned out differently. Things will be even worse for people up and down the Rhymney valley when the Gwent closes and is replaced by a hospital even further away.

This building is no more than a `clinic` with a number of assessment beds. It excels in that it has a semi secure mental health unit, and a first rate x ray facility without an real waiting times.

Have a stroke in Ystrad Mynach, get taken to the Royal Gwent, and then BACK TO YSTRAD MYNACH

This is an appeal for witnesses to a serious accident— not for people to get on their soap box and moan about how rubbish this hospital is!

This is a forum for public views and debate, it does NOT DETRACT from the appeal for information. in fact, it has the ability for Politicians to read public concerns sbout things they have control over, plus, improve a rediculous situation in respect the people involved in this accident and potential victims of future incidents.

Soap box comments and public debate is the only way to improve things.

Its spelt ridiculous and I suggest people appreciate the services we have in place…the nearest A+E may be 20 minutes away but in other areas, such a north wales, they have to travel much further. There is a minor injuries unit at Ystrad where you can be seen and treated much quicker than in a minor injuries department within a+e. If the public utilised this service as well as the chemist, GP and GP out of hours then our a+e departments wouldn’t be so over run.

Ah` I now see why you want to close down debate on the `Hospital` issue. Clearly you are pleased with what is a second or third rate provision replacing the Miners.

You are clearly content to measure the Yrstrad facility and the way it serves, our, south of the borough citizens, with a lesser provision in North Wales, and you have the nerve to suggest that we should consider ourself more fortunate than our friends living in the north, and we should remain `content` with what we have.

I now understand why you do not like local citizens highlighting the shortcoming of medical provision in Gwent.

I find your comments strange coming from the Proud Caerphilly citizen you have said you are.

The Ystrad Hospital debate will go on until such time that the provision improves, and of course the debate will grow when the Royal Gwent is replaced even further away from our area.

Forget the spelling issues I am too old to take any notice, dont waste you time.
