Leader of the House of Commons Chris Grayling rallies the Leave campaign on visit to Caerphilly

Chris Grayling MP, the Conservative Leader of the House of Commons, has spoken passionately on why Britain should vote to leave the European Union, during a visit to Caerphilly.

The MP told Leave campaigners they must persuade voters to vote out in the EU referendum on June 23.

He said: “We’ve got to remember why we are doing this. We’re doing it because we want to take back control of our country. We’re doing it because we want to take back control of our trade and forge new partnerships around the world.

“We’re doing it because we want to take back control of our immigration system

“We’re doing it because we want to spend the money that goes to the European Union on better things like our local public services.

“But above all, we are doing this to take back control of our democracy.”

Andrew RT Davies AM, leader of the Welsh Conservatives, added: “This is a chance of a lifetime to actually take back control of our country. That’s what we are fighting for, that’s what people are beeping their horns on the streets of Caerphilly for and across the whole of Wales.

“Ultimately, if we don’t do what Chris said and convince those wavering voters, we will only have ourselves to blame.”

    Leave Campaigners NOT moved on?

Where were the Council Highways enforcement officers? Probably a day off in lue for working last Saturday?. Where were the police? surly they have a duty, as they did last Saturday, to advise these people that they were obstructing the highway? Ah! Could it have something to do with the fact that the obstructors included the Leader of the House of Commons?, the authority who makes the laws both the Highways officers and the Police have to uphold. Surly an incident a lesson learned, and a more conciliatory approach was adopted on Thursday in the name of Free Speech?..

The problem is that Caerphilly Council make up the laws as they go along depending on which direction the wind is blowing and what moon phase it happens to be at the time, and when they have made up a rule they do not apply it consistently to everybody. I can’t hold a community volunteer run not for profit food market in a free car park because Caerphilly Council forbides trading in their car parks but they can hold a commercial money making market in their pay and display car park in the centre of Caerphilly.

Yes, consistency is needed. The people of the Town are increasingly inconvenieneced by the council holding vanity events but our own community is forbidden to have the temerity to hold modest events where we live.

The presense of the Rt. Hon. Chris Grayling MP certainly gave the powers that be pause for thought, there was no way they wanted to have an altercation with him – a far too big a fish for the CCBC to try and land!

Yes indeed we ( a volunteer community group ) are not allowed to hold a modest food market to promote local Welsh food and local Welsh food producers in the very large car park in our village, although one department in the council has helped us greatly with our project, another department will not allow the use of the car park for just 4 hours, and we have all the necessary public liability insurance which the council asked us to provide in order to use the car park for a small event. Yet they can close roads and car parks causing massive disruption to local businesses and residents.
