Thousands of visitors descended on this year’s Machen Agricultural Show to help celebrate its 75th anniversary.
Showers in the morning curtailed numbers slightly but once the weather improved, visitors soon flocked to the show, held at Mill Farm on Saturday, July 2.
As always, there was a wide array of animals, crafts and foods on display as well as a host of exhibitions, from a 1940s tea dance tent, to a stunt dog display.
Kevin Stanworth, chairman of the Machen Agricultural Show, said: “The weather wasn’t too kind to us in the morning, but we had a very, very good reception from the crowds who were very pleased with the attractions.
“The members of our committee put on a great show for our 75th anniversary. Things went according to plan and we had no real problems with the traffic because of the efforts of the committee.”
Farmer Robbie Breeze, 43, of Bedwas, attended the show with his wife Mel, 41, and his tractor-mad son Louis, three.
Mr Breeze said he had always attended the show every year and said: “It’s still going strong after 75 years and it is getting better and better.”
A great event for Machen and a good opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy themselves, having only lived in the village a few years it strikes me how miserable some residents are, they don’t want to do anything positive for the community and when decent upstanding members of the community try to do something good for the village they whine, complain and protest about it, sad that the minority always ruin it for the majority.
Really good to see local traders, food producers and highly talented craft people in the rural market section selling genuine high quality handmade goods not cheap tat imported from China. Caerphilly has a great deal of excellent high quality small cottage industries that should be celebrated and supported, would like to see the show on twice a year or spread over a weekend, one day is too short really for this event, look forward to next year.
