Man arrested after Caerphilly car chase denies charges

A man has appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court following a high speed car chase through Caerphilly last month.

John Paul Jones, 27, was arrested and charged with failure to provide a blood sample for analysis, driving a vehicle without insurance, failure to stop, driving whilst disqualified, and dangerous driving.

Jones, formerly of Lansbury Park, denied the charges on Tuesday, July 19.

The case will now be heard at Newport Crown Court on Tuesday, August 16.

As a condition of his bail, Jones must adhere to a doorstep curfew at his current address in Cilfynydd, Pontypridd, between 10pm and 7am, and is not permitted to be in the front seats of a car at any point.

At around 1.10am on Wednesday, June 15, officers from Gwent Police stopped a vehicle near Brynhyfryd, Caerphilly, to check the car and driver – but it then drove off.

A high-speed chase then ensued, as the car headed along The Crescent in Trecenydd and eventually down a narrow footpath underneath a railway tunnel towards Bryncenydd.

The chase came to an end when the car got wedged inside the tunnel.
