Up to £500,000 from the Welsh Government’s Community Facilities Programme has been awarded to Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent Citizens Advice Bureau to help them convert a former social club in Church Place, Bargoed, into a new home for the organisation’s 35 staff and 30 volunteers.

The new facility, which is costing £807,094 in total, will provide a modern facility which will include offices for staff and volunteers, interview rooms, training and conference rooms and a dedicated IT area for use by the community where volunteers will be available to help people get online.

The new building will be fully accessible for disabled staff, volunteers and clients. The new building will also be far more energy efficient than the current site.

The project which is backed by up to £500,000 Welsh Government funding is one of eight community schemes across Wales celebrating being awarded a share of £2.6m funding to improve their buildings and facilities.

Announcing the latest projects to be funded from the Community Facilities Programme, Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Children Carl Sargeant said: “The £2.6 million I have announced is set to breathe new life into these buildings and will help ensure they help to play a valuable role in improving the lives of the people who use them.

“These projects truly are the heart of their communities, providing a huge range of important services, to young and old and space for groups to come together. The funding will enable these projects to expand their work further, throwing open their doors to even more people in the local community.”
