More than 300 pupils from Cwmaber Infants and Junior schools have taken part in a building site safety competition with Caerphilly-based housing association United Welsh.

Pupils received a safety talk about the dangers of playing on a building site from maintenance supervisor Joe Hutchinson and seven-foot tall mascot Ivor Goodsite.

Pupils were also set the challenge of designing a site poster to warn other children on the hazards they had learnt about, with winning posters being displayed at scaffolding sites in the village.

Bethan Davies, headteacher at Cwmaber Junior School said: “It’s really important that the children are aware of the possible dangers of construction sites, particularly at the start of the summer holidays.”
