Police issue warning after recent rise in thefts around Caerphilly

Gwent Police have issued a warning to Caerphilly residents after a spike in reported break-ins and thefts around the local area.

Residents are advised to lock sheds and garages securely and report any suspicious activity immediately.

Recent reported incidents include:

– A shed door was forced open on St. Martin’s Road, Caerphilly. Three bikes were stolen, including a Fordman Pro, an orange Ridgeback Flight and a red Specialised mountain bike, which were all worth around £2,600. The incident occurred between 7pm on Tuesday August 2 and 6.30pm on Wednesday August 3 (Log: 429 03/08/16).

– A shed was broken into on Greenfield Place, Abertridwr, and a 2014 KXF 250 motorcross bike was stolen between Thursday, July 28 and Tuesday, August 2 (Log: 144 02/08/16).

– A shed door was forced open on Y Cilffordd, Penyrheol, where camping and fishing equipment was stolen. Items included a green fishing box with reels and torches, a fish bag, a tent, an umbrella, a rod and rod stand. The incident occurred between 5.30am and 8am on Friday July 29 (Log:232 29/07/16).

– An unlocked up-and-over garage door on Corbett Crescent was entered and a number of items stolen – including a drill and tools – sometime overnight between Wednesday July 27 and Thursday July 28 (Log: 94 28/07/16).

Caerphilly Crime and Disorder Reduction Officer, PC Stuart Lewis said: “We are currently investigating each reported crime and asking residents to secure their property.

“Please report any suspicious activity immediately by calling Gwent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
