The Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert, has welcomed the ban on the sale of ‘zombie knives’ which is set to come into force in England and Wales from Thursday, August 18.
Popularised by horror films and graphic novels, the curved blades are traditionally sold as collectors items, but have recently been carried by criminals.
Anyone caught breaking the law will face up to four years in prison.
Mr Cuthbert said: “I am delighted that common sense has prevailed and that these absolutely horrendous and brutal weapons will be banned from our streets. They have no practical use whatsoever and no place in civilised society.
“What’s appalling is the way in which these menacing and deadly weapons have been glamourised and marketed to appear to be no more than toys in their appearance.”
