Trethomas Bluebirds marked their Welsh League Division Three debut with a 2-1 victory over Caerleon.
Having clinched promotion from the Gwent County league last season, Trethomas manager Gareth Kedward was forced to call upon two youth players to fill spots on the bench vacated by players still on holiday.
The game started well for Trethomas as Leon Young headed home a Jake Horwood corner to give Bluebirds a 20th minute lead.
Caerleon equalised midway through the first half against the run of play, but the Bluebirds were not to be denied as Fishbourne and Horwood combined five minutes before half-time and Young got his second from close range.
Trethomas dominated for long periods in the second half, but a combination of luck and good goalkeeping kept Caerleon in the game.
The home side rarely threatened, and Trethomas picked up their first three points of the season.
