Council offices are often said to be the natural habitat of the busy body, but now they are also the home of the humble honeybee.
Caerphilly County Borough Council is working with the Sirhowy Valley Honeybee Company to home around 80,000 bees in two beehives in the grounds surrounding its Penallta House headquarters in Tredomen.
Along with boosting overall bee numbers, which have been in decline in recent years, it is also hoped the project will improve the grounds through pollinating plants and foliage.
Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development said: “As a local authority we have undertaken various projects to help increase the number of pollinators and raise awareness of their importance.
“I hope that we continue to do this and I look forward to seeing the honey bees at work around Penallta House.”
