The Welsh Blood Service has reported a 34% drop in blood donors and a 41% decline in new donors coming forward over the last ten years.
Director for the Welsh Blood Service Cath O’Brien, said while there was not a crisis in blood stocks, new donors are needed.
She said: “New donors are needed every year to replace those who can no longer donate as well as ensure the right mix of blood groups to meet patient needs today and in the future.”
The Welsh Blood Service will be at the following places this month for people to make blood donations.
• Ystrad Mynach: Friday, September 2, 10.45am to 1.45pm and 3.15pm to 6.30pm, at Tesco, New Road.
• Caerphilly: Friday, September 9, 10.45am to 1.45pm and 3.15pm to 6.30pm, at Asda, Pontygwindy Road.
• Risca: Friday, September 23, 10.45am to 1.45pm and 3.15pm to 6.30pm at Tesco, Pontymister Industrial Estate, Newport Road.
• Nantgarw: Monday, September 26, 10am to 12.30pm and 2pm to 4.20pm, at Coleg Y Cymoedd, Nantgarw Campus.
• Ystrad Mynach: Wedenesday, September 28, 1.30pm to 6pm, at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Nelson Road.
