Caerphilly County Borough Council has said residents wanting a garden waste collection over the winter months will have to request one.
The local authority said the temporary measure, between October 31 this year and February 24, next year, is being introduced because of changes it is making in the disposal of garden and food waste.
A new fleet of refuse vehicles is being rolled out in the spring that will separate out garden and food waste.
Food waste will then be recycled using anaerobic digestion – a cleaner method which generates energy from the waste.
Until the new vehicles are introduced, the council is stopping routine garden waste collections.
The council has said it does not anticipate the changes to garden waste causing disruption to residents, as only small amounts of garden waste are generated over winter months.
Caerphilly County Borough Council is currently visiting every home across the borough to encourage more residents to recycle food waste.
Does that mean we will get a reduced rate on your council tax during the winter months, also I have hear that green bin’s will be going to every 4 week collection’s which i think is ridiculous
A new fleet of refuse wagons is going to cost a few quid so council tax will only be going up and most likely by 5 or 6 % which will also have to make up for last years election sweetener of only 1%, and we’re still paying off the Caerphilly 3. It’s only a matter of time before they go to 4 weekly green bin collections which yes is ridiculous, just have to do what some residents in my street already do – acquire a second green wheelie bin and put two out every collection.
