Rugby Union Roundup: National Bowl and Plate results

Sport | | Published: 15:24, Tuesday October 18th, 2016.

Teams from across the National Leagues turned their attention to knock-out cup matches, with several Caerphilly County Borough sides in action in the WRU National Bowl and Plate competitions on Saturday October 8.

Penallta secured passage to the second round of the National Plate with a 25-17 home victory over Caerleon, but Senghenydd and Risca both fell to first round defeats away to Brynmawr and Ynysybwl respectively.

National League Division 2 East leaders Abercarn were beneficiaries of a bye, but were joined in the second round by Blackwood, who eased past Pill Harriers 15-27, and Ynsddu, following their 17-24 victory at Cwmbran.

In the National Bowl, Caerphilly found themselves in round three without even lacing up their boots, after Whitchurch were unable to put together a team for their fixture.

Oakdale managed to do enough to squeeze past Fleur-de-Lys, with a 17-20 victory, while Markham hammered Blackwood Stars 53-0 to progress into the third round.

National Plate round two and National Bowl round three fixtures take place on the weekend of Saturday October 29.
