A seasoned racecar driver from Caerphilly has finished second overall in the 2016 BRSCC Open Sports Series (OSS).

Graham Cole has been rallying for over 30 years, and secured the Excool OSS Class A title at Silverstone on Sunday October 16 with one race spare.

The Excool OSS is a motor racing championship hosted by the British Racing Sports Car Club, with open regulations for sports car prototypes.

As a development formula, engineers can test their skills and ideas on the track in seven classes based on engine size.

Despite earlier wins at Silverstone in March, Brands Hatch in July, and Donnington Park in August, several retirements meant that only a pair of victories would guarantee a second Class A title at the return to Silverstone.

Vying with Scottish driver Richard Fearns, Graham took the first race as his title-rival left the track, and a long scrap in the second leg went to the wire before the veteran crossed the line to take top spot in the class.

Not even a retirement in the third race could dampen the mood in the team, as adverse weather conditions caused complications.
The Energlyn-based driver won his title in a 3500cc Jade Traxstar, with help from Hengoed’s Richwest Engineering.

Graham added: “We’re really looking forward to next season and with a development work on the car already underway, 2017 is looking promising.”
