Council homes in Lansbury Park to be fitted with energy-saving cladding as part of £2m project

News | | Published: 12:05, Friday November 4th, 2016.

Around 320 council homes on the Lansbury Park estate in Caerphilly town will get an external facelift as part of a £2 million energy-saving project.

The houses will be fitted with new external cladding that will help insulate homes and save energy.

The work will be done through the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) initiative – a government energy efficiency scheme to cut carbon emissions and reduce fuel poverty. Under the scheme, large energy suppliers are given targets based on their share of the domestic energy market and then deliver energy efficiency measures to homes.

Local ward members Cllrs Barbara Jones, Christine Forehead and Elaine Forehead welcomed the news in a joint statement.

They said: “We are delighted that so many residents on the estate are to benefit from this significant investment which will improve their homes.

“This latest scheme forms part of the council’s ongoing commitment to work with the community and transform the fortunes of the estate. We are sure the whole of Lansbury Park will join us in welcoming the news and we look forward to the start of works.”

Caerphilly County Borough Council said the new cladding will transform the appearance of the estate creating a “palette of different colours” instead of uniform grey.

Cllr David Poole, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “This over cladding will assist in transforming the appearance of individual properties and the estate as a whole, as well as assisting to address fuel poverty and reduce tenants’ energy bills. This is yet another example of the way we are transforming homes, lives and communities across the area.”

Nigel Dewbery, Head of ECO Delivery at E.ON, said: “Projects like this are an excellent and very real example of communities, local authorities and energy companies working together. Not just improving people’s homes and reducing their energy bills, but also giving back a sense of community spirit and pride.

“Our work in Lansbury Park follows on from successful projects with Caerphilly County Borough Council in Gelligaer and Bargoed where we actively supported the local supply chain and we will continue that approach to work with a range of local companies on the Lansbury Park project.”
