Rugby Union: Bargoed rock-bottom of Premiership table as woes continue

Sport | | Published: 10:22, Friday December 9th, 2016.

Pontypridd 37 – 15 Bargoed
Saturday December 3, Pontypridd

Bargoed travelled to Sardis Road on an awful run of eight consecutive losses in the Principality Premiership, knowing that several of those matches had drifted away from them in the final quarter.

This match was to be no different, as the Bulls shipped 17 late points.

Both full-backs traded penalties in the early exchanges before the home crowd was stunned into silence as Bargoed wheeled a Ponty scrum for hooker Leigh Meades to score.

Up 8-3 after 20 minutes, Bargoed were carved up by the slick back line of the home side, before conceding again from a driving maul after losing second-row Grant Rogers to the sin-bin.

The deficit became 12 shortly after half-time, as Ponty’s lock Chris Dicomidis crossed in the corner with Bargoed still a man down. Hall converted at 20-8.

The Bulls pulled one back when Meades grabbed his second try of the match, but switched off from the restart, as a loose pass fell for Dale Stuckey to score Ponty’s bonus-point try.

Bargoed sought a valuable losing bonus point, but conceded again deep into injury time. The final whistle blew at 37-15, leaving Bargoed rock-bottom of the table.
