Gwent Police has appointed a new Deputy Chief Constable.

Julian Williams, pictured above, has taken up his position following the departure of Craig Guildford, who is leaving to become Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police.

Mr Williams, who joined South Wales Police in 1989, has experience in several policing areas including uniform.

After completing six months as a temporary Assistant Chief Constable in South Wales, Mr Williams was seconded to Gwent Police in a similar role June 2014. That became permanent in Gwent in May 2015.

Deputy Chief Constable Williams said: “I am honoured to be appointed to this role. Since I started in Gwent I have been hugely impressed by the commitment of our officers and staff within the force, who work hard to provide an excellent service to the public and communities of Gwent.

“I am now looking forward to taking up the new role and working with colleagues and partners to meet the policing challenges of the future.”

Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner Jeff Cuthbert said: “I am very pleased that Julian Williams has been appointed as the new Deputy Chief Constable for Gwent.

“I have worked with him closely since my election as Police and Crime Commissioner last May and am confident that with his knowledge and experience he will make a very positive contribution towards policing and wellbeing within Gwent.”
