Castle View Post Office to extend opening hours

News | | Published: 15:31, Monday January 23rd, 2017.

The post office on the Castle View estate in Caerphilly town is to extend it opening hours.

The branch, which is located in the Tesco Express, will close on Monday, January 23, and will reopen following a refurbishment on Friday, January 27.

The branch will then open, seven days a week, from 8am to 8pm,
Sue Whittall, Area Manager for the Post Office, said: “We are confident that this vibrant new-style post office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.”

Oh yeah its amazing unless you happen to be a staff member who is made to work the extended hours !
This 24hr society is rubbish, more about making money for the shareholders than anything else.

Good point, many people forget that shop workers get a raw deal. They are compelled to work Sundays and Bank Holidays for standard hourly rates. This does not happen in many other countries, I was in Belgium two years ago and, due to my inattention, was running out of petrol. There is no chance of buying fuel in Belgium on a Sunday, it’s a day off.

There should be a rethink on the 24 hour society, some jobs will always need to be done on Sundays, continuous industrial processes, policing, hospitals, armed forces and so on. That said there is no reason why we should expect shops to be open seven days a week. One quiet day will do all of us good.
