Welsh-language school in Caerphilly town receives glowing Estyn report

News | | Published: 16:00, Tuesday January 24th, 2017.

Estyn school inspectors have given a glowing report to Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Y Castell.

Overall performance for the Caerphilly primary school was rated “good”.

Inspectors said pupils spoke Welsh fluently and confidently by the end of Key Stage 2 when pupils are around 11 years-old.

In their inspection report, they said: “There is an inclusive, warm, welcoming and caring ethos in the school, and pupils welcome visitors with a smile and are happy to talk.

“There is a valuable emphasis on the right to be happy and leading by example.”

The school has now been invited by Estyn to write a case study about the excellent practice observed that will be shared across Wales.

Headteacher Helan Nuttall said: “The children should all be congratulated for their behaviour, progress and engagement with learning.

“I am very proud of each and every one of them. All pupils enjoy the experiences offered at our school and thrive through the outstanding work of the dedicated team of staff at Ysgol Y Castell.

“I am lucky to be a part of this very special school community.”
