Pontllanfraith residents encouraged to join community litter pick

News | | Published: 09:26, Tuesday February 7th, 2017.

Pontllanfraith’s three Labour councillors have called on residents to take pride in their community and get involved in a litter-picking event.

Councillors Mike Adams, Colin Gordon and Gez Kirby have invited local residents to support a community morning organised for Saturday February 11.

Cllr Kirby said: “Despite the Tory Westminster government’s funding cuts to Welsh local authorities, Caerphilly Council’s cleansing teams do a great job around our county borough. But in recent months there’s been a huge build-up of litter on the land behind Colin’s Fish Bar and Pont News stores on Commercial Street.

“We know our community takes ‘Pride in Pont’, so we hope as many local people as possible can come along on the morning to help make Pontllanfraith an even tidier place to live”.

Cllr Adams added: “We’re working on this together with the brilliant Keep Wales Tidy campaign, and we’ve invited local schools, Guides and Scouts groups to join us on the day”.

Cllr Gordon said: “We’re all meeting up outside the shops on Commercial Street at 10.30 on the morning of Saturday, February 11.”
