A planning application to turn an empty shop in Caerphilly town into a police station has been submitted.
The new station is set for Cardiff Road after Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner Jeff Cuthbert pledged to reopen a town centre base for officers.
Another new police station that’s the third one in the last 6 years. They keep down grading the stations. I expect this is not a police station more of a talking shop manned by support officer who are not pc’s and can not deal with any complaints.i bet has well it will only be open 2 days a week. Another smoke and mirror trick by gwent police and labour councillors to make the public think thy have a police station. #plasticpolicestation manned by plastic coppers
I agree with most of your comment but the police shop that is to be opened, no doubt temporarily until after the elections, is nothing to do with the council. The police are run by the Labour politician Jeff Cuthbert.
Last year the former Caerffili Inspector Gareth Jones talked of a proper police station where more than sixty officers were to be based. I have no doubt that he said this in good faith as I always found him a decent and committed police officer who worked as well as he could under the constraints placed upon him.
A town of this size deserves a proper police station which is manned 24 hours and has cells for the custody of those arrested in the Caerffili basin. The ‘cop shop’ will be better than nothing but we all deserve better. If we could have a permanent police presence for more than a century why can’t we have the same now?
We already have a station to put prisoners it’s in ystrad mynach it was only opened a few years ago, is this still open? We need to stop wasting money opening new buildings when we have stations that were brand new less then 10yrs ago. If the police station in ystrad mynach had closed, what a waste of money. I also can’t see a new station being built a n Caerphilly if this is the case. Like John said we need police on patrol not new buildings.
I believe the cells in Ystrad Mynach have already been closed. The unit was called a ‘custody suite’ – who is it that makes up these labels?
Until 2012 we had a perfectly good police station (now demolished) on Mountain Road. It was close to the town centre and had adequate parking for police vehicles.
It appears to me that our Police and Crime Commissioner is content as long as Newport has police facilities. After all he does not live in the borough.
As Edward says this will be the 3rd Police “building” in Caerphilly in recent years. We don’t need more buildings,we need more officers on foot patrol
