Rugby teams from around Caerphilly County Borough will be vying to reach the Principality Stadium in the National Cup, Plate, and Bowl competitions, after the draw for the next rounds were made.

In the WRU National Bowl, Caerphilly have been drawn against Cilfynydd, having seen off their divisional rivals Taff’s Well 41-14 on Saturday February 18.

The Castlemen scored six tries before two late consolation scores from the visitors, and are hoping to reach a first major final since 2004.

Cilfynydd received a bye in round one and beat Machen on their way to the semi-final.

The borough has two representatives in the WRU National Plate semi-finals, as Abercan face Ystalyfera and Penallta – last season’s beaten finalists – take on Nant Conwy.

Penallta and Nant Conwy contested the final in 2012 as the Pitmen came away victorious, but only one side will make it to the Principality Stadium this year.

Abercarn beat reigning North Wales champions Pwlhelli to reach the last-four, while Ystalyfera saw off Rumney 30-20 from Division 1 East Central.

Neither team has been involved in a final before, and both will be motivated by the prospect of playing in front of their fans at the national stadium in April.

The semi-final matches take place on Saturday March 25.

Elsewhere, Cross Keys face Pontypool at Pandy Park in the quarter-final of the WRU National Cup, which will be played on Saturday March 4.
