New community library in Graig y Rhacca allows residents to borrow tools for DIY

News | | Published: 13:40, Friday March 3rd, 2017.

A new ‘Community Tool Library’ has been launched for residents to borrow hand tools for small DIY jobs.

The tools are available for residents living in Graig y Rhacca, near Machen, to hire for a small fee on a daily or weekly basis.

The scheme has been launched by the Graig y Rhacca Resource Centre – a social enterprise which reinvests any money it generates back into the local community.

The hand tools were donated by Robert Price Builders’ Merchants and with a grant from Viridor’s Community Fund enabled the Resource Centre to purchase power tools and lawn-mowing equipment for the library.

Other projects by Graig y Rhacca Resource Centre include a ‘Community Thrift Shop’ which allows residents to buy and sell unwanted household items and clothing.

Darren Pole, Chair of Graig y Rhacca Resource Centre, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who’s supported us with the Community Tool Library.

“Without the support, knowledge and skills of the council, Robert Price and Viridor this project would not have been possible.

“The ongoing support of the Communities First team has also been vital in ensuring the continued success of the Resource Centre and projects such as this.”

For more information about the Community Tool Library, residents can call into Graig y Rhacca Resource Centre, 59 – 71 Grays Gardens.

The centre is open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Alternatively, people can call Gareth Mitchell, Business Development Manager, on 02920 883039.
