Caerphilly County Borough’s Big Spring Clean 2017 was launched with the first clean-up of the year taking place in Senghenydd.

A keen workforce collected over a tonne of discarded refuse from the embankment of Nant Cwm Parc on Monday February 20, where a sofa, chair, tyre and footballs were recovered from the water.

Local residents joined Senghenydd Youth Drop-In Centre (SYDIC), and Keep Wales Tidy, amongst others, in making the area cleaner and greener, cutting back overgrown brambles and removing several bags of rubbish.

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “The stream that flows through Senghenydd has now been thoroughly cleansed, which was appreciated by a number of passers-by during the clean-up. I look forward to seeing how the Big Spring Clean transforms other areas of the borough throughout the year.”

Nice to see the community officer picking litter in the community, I thought that their job was to up hold the law not pick litter. Don’t we have litter pickers on the council to do this job? Surely it’s not the police job to do this, perhaps a litter picker can help catch criminals for the police. There is also not enough police to do the job they are suppose to do

Is it a Community Officer ,or a Community Warden ?
They all look the same……….either way, I agree they should be patrolling the streets and not joining in a litter pick.
