Pupils at Deri Primary School were given the opportunity to meet and quiz their local MP Gerald Jones.

In a special assembly held befoe half-term, pupils were given a chance to ask Mr Jones questions about his life and role as the Labour Member of Parliament for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney.

Mr Jones said: “I really enjoyed my afternoon at Deri Primary School. I know that there have been a few speakers at Deri to discuss their jobs and careers, and I was happy to go along and let them know about being an MP.

“I wanted to stress that although sometimes it doesn’t feel like it, the great thing about British democracy is that anyone can become an MP, AM, or other elected representative and I hope that pupils in Deri Primary will be a part of the next generation of MPs, AMs and councillors.”

Headmaster Paul Hamer, added: “It’s great that the pupils got an insight into the role of their MP.

Hopefully one or two will be amongst the next generation to grace the green benches of Westminster.”
