A sensory charity has recognised the personal achievements of its volunteers and service users with a glamorous awards ceremony.

The Sense Cymru ‘Oscars’ took place at Caerphilly Castle – decorated in Hollywood style with a red carpet – on Wednesday March 8, celebrating the charity’s successes from the year.

The evening was funded as part of the Big Lottery Fund ‘Celebrate’ grant, allowing charities to celebrate their achievements.

Barclays Bank offered to match-fund the raffle, raising £2,000 towards helping young people and adults with sight and hearing impairments, and multiple disabilities.

In attendance were Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Cllr Diane Price, Caerphilly Town Council Mayor, Cllr Steve Kent, and Caerphilly AM, Hefin David.

Winners included: Grassroots Hero – Kerrie Thomas, Special Movers; Volunteer of the Year – Ceri Hooper, Valley Daffodils; Personal Achievement Award – Amy Moses; Above and Beyond – Denise Evans and Kate Howell; Peer to Peer award – James Williams and Charlotte Preece; Welcome aboard – Charlotte Mckenzie and Cheryl Jones; Partnership award – Powys Supporting People Team; Sense Cymru Ambassadors – Tomos Hooper, Bethan Finnamore, Tom and Simone Preece; Making a Difference – Catherine Robins-Talbot.

Sense Cymru claimed the evening was a big success and enjoyed by all.
