YOUNG POET: Oliver Hard with his work, We Wrote A Letter,
is raising awareness about the Syrian refugee crisis

A budding poet has published a booklet of poetry to raise awareness of the Syrian refugee crisis and donate money to Save the Children.

The work was the brainchild of Oliver Hard, 11, from Rudry, who saw the struggle of child refugees and their families fleeing Syria, and decided to make a difference with the help of his co-writers from the Caerphilly Young People’s Writing Squad.

The group worked with writer Rufus Mufasa – who herself has written on the topic of refugees – to pen poems in both English and Welsh.

Kate Verity, Caerphilly Arts Development Officer, said: “It has been a moving and memorable experience for us. We are proud to present the writing and artwork that we were inspired to create in the light of an ongoing humanitarian tragedy.”
