An apprentice nursery nurse who found permanent employment through a Welsh Government training scheme has been recognised for her hard work.

Becky Bowen, 20, from Nelson, started work at Britannia Day Nursery, on Caerphilly Business Park, back in November 2015 through Jobs Growth Wales.

After the initial six-months on the scheme, the nursery was so impressed with her work ethic that they took her on as an apprentice.

Becky’s hard work and dedication has now been recognised with an award from training consortium Vocational Skills Partnership, which has named her Jobs Growth Wales Outstanding Achiever of the Year.

Becky has recently completed an NVQ Level 3 qualification in Childcare and Learning Development – three months earlier than scheduled.

Lyn Bourne, a director of Britannia Day Nursery, said: “Becky is a very dedicated, team player who is committed to furthering her qualifications.”

Becky, a former Lewis Girls School pupil, said she has aspirations to one day run her own nursery, but is happy where she is right now.

She said: “I’m really enjoying working here and have had a lot of support from the nursery in my development and with my NVQ assignments.”
