Crumlin woman jailed for ‘glassing’ attack

News | | Published: 15:46, Wednesday June 7th, 2017.

A Crumlin woman has been jailed for two-and-a-half years for assault after she ‘glassed’ her victim three times.

Taylor Andrews, 23, of Whitethorn Street, Crumlin, admitted unlawful wounding and inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent at Cardiff Crown Court last month.

The court was told the attack happened on May 30, last year at Swallow Drive, Blackwood, and was a result of a family feud.

The prosecution said Andrews fought with her victim and struck her on the back of the head. When the fight ended up on the floor, Andrews picked up a glass and smashed it against her opponent. Three glasses were used in total during the attack.

Her victim was taken to hospital with bruising and injuries to her forehead. It was said her mental health is continuing to suffer as a result of the ordeal.

After being arrested, Andrews, who was found hiding by a bed, repeatedly answered interviewing police officers with “no comment” after initially telling them “It was me”.

Her defence team said Andrews accepted that she had lost self-control.

She was previously sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison in 2011 following a “serious offence” involving a knife while under the influence of drugs.
