Rugby Union: Scrum-half plays his part in Scarlet’s Pro 12 title win

Sport | | Published: 14:28, Friday June 9th, 2017.

A former Lewis School pupil got a taste of glory as he helped his region lift the Guinness Pro 12 trophy last month.

Jonathan Evans came off the bench to play his part in the Scarlets’ stunning 22-46 victory over Irish province, Munster, to clinch the Pro 12 title for the first time in 13 years on Saturday May 27.

Evans, 24, studied at Lewis School, Pengam, while turning out as a scrum-half for Bargoed RFC.

He made his professional league debut for Newport Gwent Dragons in 2010 aged 17, before also pulling on the shirts of Bedwas and Cross Keys.

Evans moved to Bath ahead of the 2015-16 season, but after finding game time hard to come by, returned to Wales and joined the Scarlets.

His new side stunned their Irish opponents and the bookmakers at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Four first half tries from Liam Williams, Steff Evans, Gareth Davies and Tadhg Beirne set the West Wales outfit on their way to an historic league win.
