A local supermarket is holding a community event as part of the national Great Get Together celebration this weekend.
Sainsbury’s Pontllanfraith is helping customers celebrate being part of their community by hosting a drop-in event on Saturday June 17.
Created to encourage communities to get to know each other and embrace both similarities and differences, various events are being held across the country to celebrate the first anniversary of the murder of MP, Jo Cox.
Set up by the Jo Cox Foundation, the basis of the Great Get Together is inspired by the MP’s maiden speech to Parliament, where she discussed themes of togetherness.
Shoppers at Sainsbury’s Pontllanfraith can enjoy drinks, food, and a selfie booth between 10am and 4pm.
Store manager, Alyn Davies, said: “We’re really proud to play our part in this nationwide event by bringing people together from the Caerphilly area and encouraging our customers to join the community spirit.
“As a values-led business, being part of the local community is extremely important to us and we look forward to bringing local people together as part of this event.”
Iona Lawrence, Director of the Jo Cox Foundation, added: “I’m delighted that Sainsbury’s is taking part in The Great Get Together and hosting some of the 110,000 events taking part across the UK. The important thing is that it will be a lot of fun and will hopefully play its part in reminding us all of the values that make this country such a great place to live.”
