A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with drug offences after a 15-year-old girl died in a wooded area on Caerphilly Mountain.

Shauna Davies, 15, of Caerphilly, died in the early hours of Sunday, June 18, after emergency services were called to an area just off Caerphilly Mountain Road, near Caerphilly town.

The boy, from Gelligaer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Newport Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, June 22.

He has been charged with supplying the class A drug MDMA to Miss Davies and three other youths, in addition to a charge of supplying cannabis.

Bail was granted and the youth is next due to appear at Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, June 27.

Gwent Police last week said four other people also arrested in connection with the death have been released under investigation.

In a statement released via Gwent Police, Shauna’s family paid tribute to her calling her “a beautiful person inside and out”.

The circumstances surrounding Shauna’s death are not yet known
