Star Wars characters, pirates, and Ghostbusters descended on Caerphilly for the town’s first ever Comic Con earlier this month.

The convention saw more than 1,000 visitors to the Caerphilly Leisure Centre venue on Saturday June 10, and raised close to £3,000 for the Caerphilly Children’s Centre charity across a whole weekend of activities.

The event, which was dubbed a ‘community comic con’, partnered with local businesses and schools across Caerphilly County Borough to offer incentives ahead of the weekend.

Organiser Vik Yadh said: “I’ve been collecting comic books since I was a child in the 80s, and wanted to bring something different to the town.

“We provided close to 1,800 ‘golden tickets’ for schoolchildren to attend the con and offered prizes and ran competitions on the day.

“I hope we can make it an annual event here in Caerphilly. Almost £1,500 was raised for charity, and a final figure will be kindly matched by Santander bank.”
