A primary school is celebrating after several of its pupils were awarded a national heritage award.

Year 5 and 6 pupils from Tyn-y-Wern Primary School in Trethomas were recognised after producing a film for their project, called the ‘Lost Railway of Trethomas’.

Incredibly, it’s the eighth consecutive year that Tyn-y-Wern has won the Welsh Heritage Schools Initiative award, which will be presented to pupils on Friday July 7 at Trinity College, Carmarthen.

During the course of their research, the children collaborated with the local history society, visited the STEAM Museum in Swindon, and interviewed local members of the community.

Using green-screen and iMovie technology, the pupils then produced a film which chronicled the history of railway travel, with a particular focus on the line which formerly ran through Trethomas.

The film was shown at two separate screenings, and can be seen online by visiting goo.gl/yprXYA.
