An intimate community festival is returning to its wooded roots in Rudry next month.

Between The Trees Festival, dubbed as ‘the next Green Man’, will be providing a range of activities for people of all ages across two days, utilising the Rudry Parish Hall and a series of outdoor tents and marquees.

Following on from its debut year in 2016 – when it was called Rudry Music Festival – organisers have changed the name to reflect the wider scale of the bill.

This year, Between The Trees boasts more performers, interactive art and science activities, spoken word sessions, wood crafting, and a large range of local foods, ales and ciders.

Visitors can camp at the site, with activities going on between 7pm and midnight on Friday July 7, and midday and midnight on Saturday July 8.

Promising to make attendees feel “miles away from the hustle and bustle of modern life”, the festival is a community initiative, with all proceeds donated to Rudry Parish Hall and leading mental health charity, Sane.

Two music stages offer a variety of sights and sounds, with the likes of Climbing Trees, Ofelia, Marc O’Reilly, Firewood Island, Luke Jackson and The Black Feathers performing across the weekend on the Main and Acoustic stages.

Away from the twang of guitars and crowing of voices, visitors can learn to speak bird song and get an insight into local nature with experts who know their flora from their fauna.

Elsewhere, there’s a chance to contribute to a group mural, chip away with wood craft, design a roof in yurt-building sessions, or take part in the five-senses scavenger hunt.

For those who need to get away from the stresses of life, a health and well-being area offers relaxing massages, morning yoga sessions, and wonderful story-telling in the Words in the Woods area.

Local food suppliers will be plentiful, with a wide range of local beers and ciders from the likes of Untapped Brewery and William Brothers Cider also available.

There are only a small number of tickets available for Between The Trees 2017.

A whole weekend ticket, including tent pitch, costs £40 per adult, £20 for children between 14 and 17, while younger children go free. For just a ticket to the Saturday, also with a tent pitch, the cost drops to £30 per adult, and £10 for children aged between 14 and 17.
