A woman from Energlyn will be taking on a terrifying 10,000ft skydive later this month to raise money and awareness of brain cancer.

Nadine Davies, 27, will be plummeting from a plane in the skies above Swansea on Saturday July 15 as she skydives in memory of her father, who died from the disease aged just 54.

Nadine, a veterinary nurse at Valley Vets, said: “My dad was diagnosed with brain cancer in September and passed away in May. It was around three or four months ago that I decided to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity.

“I just want to raise awareness of brain cancer. My dad had no symptoms whatsoever until he had a seizure in September, and he died 34 weeks later.

“I don’t think people of aware about brain cancer. The type of tumour he had – a glioblastoma multiform – is the most common and aggressive brain cancer, it’s like a ticking time bomb. I wanted to do something to give back to the charity, who have been amazingly supportive.”

Having initially set out to raise £500 for the Brain Tumour Charity, Nadine had smashed her target within a week, and has currently raised £1,200 on her JustGiving page, along with around £400 in cash donations.

She added: “I’ve only just realised how close the jump is getting, but I feel okay. I’ll probably be scared when I’m in the plane. I’ve done a bungie jump before, and I think that’s a scarier prospect than a skydive.”

The 27-year-old will be joined at 10,000ft by her Practice Manager, Nichi Tanner, who is also braving the skydive in an effort to raise awareness, and Nadine hopes to make the fundraising an annual event.
