A morris dance group from Cardiff marked their 30th anniversary with a celebratory tour of Caerphilly County Borough.

Dancers from Clocs Canton North West Morris Dancers took in the sights and sounds of the borough on Saturday, July 15, entertaining residents and pub-goers along the way.

The group, who were joined by the Cardiff Morris and Styx of Stroud groups, visited The Twyn Community Centre and The Courthouse Pub in Caerphilly, The Rowan Tree Pub and Llancaiach Fawr Manor in Nelson, before finishing in Hengoed, passing through The Junction pub and ending on the viaduct.

Lynda Edwards, Squire of Clocs Canton North West Morris Dancers, said: “The group was set up in 1986 but first danced in 1987, so it was a bit of a celebration for us.

“The weather wasn’t too favourable, but we had a lovely reaction off the local residents. Everybody was friendly and really welcoming.”

Lynda, from Rhiwbina in Cardiff, has been involved with morris dancing for over 40 years, adding: “It’s a great social way of life.

“I started dancing with Cardiff Ladies’ Morris when I was 19, and now teach the classes at Clocs Canton.

“You get to see interesting places across the country, make great friends, and there’s no pressure to get things absolutely right.

“It’s like a second family to me here. I met my husband, Philip [a former Cwmaber Junior School teacher] and he now helps with the music side of the group.”

Clocs Canton North West Morris Dancers meet every Thursday at Tesco, Western Avenue in Cardiff. For more information on the group, visit www.clocscanton.co.uk.or call 02920 655285.
