This year, the annual Big Cheese Festival is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

The festivities will begin at 3pm on Friday, July 28 with half-price funfair rides between 3pm and 6pm that afternoon to celebrate the event’s anniversary.

The annual Great Cheese Race will follow at 6.30pm with a fireworks display at 10pm.

This year’s event will see a brand new cheese market with producers such as The Blaenafon Cheddar Company, The Great British Cheese Company and Snowdonia Cheese.

There will also be the usual musical entertainment, trade stalls and the re-enactment displays.

Cllr Sean Morgan, deputy leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “The Big Cheese Festival remains one of the largest summer events in south Wales, attracting many thousands of visitors from far and wide.

“This event really puts our county borough on the map, providing opportunities for our town’s businesses while at the same time giving our residents a chance to take part in a fabulous, community-centred festival.”

Free entry to Caerphilly Castle is also available on the Saturday and Sunday. Access is via the main entrance only.
